    CRID is a network of French NGOs working for International Solidarity. Its membership includes about 50 French organisations and their Southern and Eastern partner NGOs, creating an international network of 1500 partner organisations, 7500 local groups and 180,000 volunteers. Every second year, CRID organises a summer campus for NGO staff and volunteers, “L’Université d’été de la solidarité internationale”, which attracts more than 1000 participants.

    During the month of July 10 Tactics was screened six times in five states across Northeast India. The screenings were hosted by the Foundation of People Empowerment (FPE) in association with Mahiti, and the Panos Institute South Asia.

    Every year around 20 000 of the most influential advocates, policy-makers and organisations working in the field of HIV/AIDS and committed to ending the pandemic gather for the International AIDS conference. This year's event took place in Vienna, Austria, between 18 - 23 July and was focused on maintaining HIV/AIDS as a key global, and human rights issue and pushing for the expansion of HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support.

    On 1 June 10 Tactics was shown as part of the Women of Uganda Network's (WOUGNET) 10 year anniversary celebrations in Kampala. This celebration also marked the 100th screening of 10 Tactics. The film was well received by the participants and a number of copies of 10 Tactics and other materials by Tactical Tech were distributed after the film.

    Undoubtedly, 10 Tactics has been screened in many interesting locations around the world, but its premiere in Cyprus on 27 May 2010 was quite unique. The screening took place at the Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC), situated right in the heart of the UN buffer zone dividing the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities and therefore accessible to all communities of Cyprus.

    As part of the events organised by Mexico's National Commission for Human Rights on the week dedicated to
    Human Rights and Migration in the Mexican Northen city of Tijuana. REDDES was invited to participate as a
    speaker in two conferences: “Tools to combat Human Right Abuse of Migrants”  and “New Generations' role in Migration and Human Rights”.

    On April 5, 70 students and LGBT activists met for a screening of the film 10 tactics for turning information into action in Austin, Texas. They gathered at the auditorium of the College of Communication of the University of Texas. The audience was mostly composed of individuals interested in using technology to further social and economic change in their community. Following the screening, the audience engaged in a discussion of the main themes portrayed in the film.

    Mumbai saw its first screening of the film 10 tactics for turning information into action at National College Conference Room at Bandra West on 29 April 2010. Point of View, a Mumbai based women’s rights non-profit that works on promoting points of view of women through media art and culture, organised this screening in collaboration with Tactical Technology Collective.

    On April 17 "10 tactics" was screened in Nepal as part of the Nepalese Youth Climate Summit (NYCA 2010), which was held for four days between 16-19 April in Sauraha, Chitwan. More than 50 participants attended the screening, which was followed by two workshops on 'building climate campaigns' led by Prashanta Khanal and 'using media for communicating climate change issues' led by Ramesh Bhusal.

    Consumer Education Society (CES) held three screenings of '10 tactics' in February and March: two in the Latur District and a further screening in Guntur, India.

    Latur District, Maharashtra state, India, saw two screenings of 10 tactics; the first being in Udgir on 2 February and the second one in Loni the following day. These screenings were organised by CES and shown as part of teacher training programmes. Around 100 teacher trainees and NGO representatives participated in these events and were said to have found the film to be highly informative and inspiring.

    '10 tactics' was screened at a workshop for Maghreb bloggers, bloggers from the five countries that constitute North Africa, in Rabat, Morocco on 16 February by the Talk Morocco project,an online forum which brings together bloggers and journalists on subjects related to Morocco, from inside and outside of the country.

    On Wednesday March 31 Internews Europe hosted a screening of '10 tactics for turning information into action' at the Comptoir Général on the banks of the Canal Saint-Martin.

    Around 100 people attended the screening and the subsequent panel discussion from various professional backgrounds including academics, journalists, individuals from the media and the commercial corporate sector and those from associations and NGOs.

    Global Voices' bi-annual Citizen Media Summit was held this year from May 6-7 in Santiago, Chile. Around a hundred of Global Voice's members, from a variety of countries and organisations, gathered for the Summit in Santiago's Public Library. They came to share stories and experiences of the use of media in different countries, contexts and cultures.

    On 25 March, 15 members of the Geneva Web Group, representing 12 organisations and agencies, met at the Secretariat of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Switzerland for a screening and discussion of the “10 Tactics” film. The “Geneva Web Group” is an informal forum where UN Agencies, NGOs, International Organizations and other web professionals get together to discuss and share problems and solutions that matter to web professionals.

    Egypt's first 10 tactics screening in Egypt was organised by Samia Helmi El-Yamani – ('Hayat'), a project manager from the Egyptian New Woman Foundation which advocates women's rights. Hayat was a participant at Tactical Tech's 2009 info-activism camp. She says her experience at this “amazing camp” was the impetus to screen the film since it allowed her to share the knowledge and experience she gained with others working to promote human rights in Egypt.

    A few months ago we reported that a new record was set for “10 tactics” screenings: nine different events were scheduled over one week in North and South America, including seven events in Mexico. The organisation responsible for these Mexico screenings is the Ibero-American Network for Sustainable Development (known for its acronym in Spanish, REDDES).

    This was something the staff of the Belarusian Human Rights House in Vilnius, Lithuania had not expected last Friday night: 60 young Belarusians, from a generation usually said to be indifferent to issues of social change, flooded their rooms for a screening of the film 10 tactics for turning information into action.

    55 thinkers and changemakers from an exciting range of grassroots initiatives gathered on March 16 with theCoup for a film and discussion on turning information into action.

    Witness, Third Wave Foundation, CodePink, Teachers for Justice, Make the Road, Common Ground, NYU, PODER, the Street Vendors Project, Fresh, Benetech, The Nation, Streets Films, and Human Rights First were just a few of the organisations and campaigns creating this stellar event at the Brooklyn Creative League.

    In San Antonio, South Texas, Media Justice League, alongside their own film entitled ‘Digital inclusion in San Antonio’, showed 10 tactics to a diverse audience. Rebecca Ohnemus writes of this experience:

    Local media activists, educators and aficionados gathered at C4 Workspace January 31 to launch San Antonio’s Digital Justice Coalition (DJC) and discuss tools and techniques for effectively communicating causes in South Texas.

    The '10 tactics' screening in Cali, Colombia, drew an audience of 28 organisations of varying interests. These included women and children rights groups, health groups, LGBTI groups, indigenous peoples’ rights groups, a union group, judicial group and an animal protection group. More than 50 people gathered at the Videoteca del Centro Cultural de Cali to watch the video and participate in the forum held by the Asociación Arte Diversot.

    10 tactics received great praise last week when it was screened in Nairobi, Kenya to more than 20 East African organisations working on election monitoring and civic participation.     From the conflict zone in Chattisgarh to the urban slums in Bombay, advocates and campaigners gathered to learn about 10 tactics as part of their participation in the 'Maps for Making Change Workshop'in Ahmedabad, India, between 1-3 February 2010.

    The workshop, organised by the Centre for Internet Society (CIS) in collaboration with Tactical Tech, was the second workshop aimed at providing advocates with the mapping know-how to communicate their social struggles.

    New record for 10 tactics record this week: the film is being show at nine different events across North and South America and you can follow most of the action on Twitter. The week started with a screening in Xalapa, Mexico, on Monday 25th February, and will end with one in Mexico City on Monday, 1st March. Before then, there are three more screenings in Mexico as well as one in Brazil, in Colombio and three in the USA.

    Yesterday, after Martyrs’ Square cleared out and before Valentines dates began, 10 activists and social media enthusiasts gathered at the Social Media Exchange (SMEX) offices in Badaro to watch '10 tactics for turning information into action' and discuss the potential of using digital and social media for positive social change in Lebanon.Jessica Dheere, from SMEX, led the discussion afterwards, questioning the audience about the video and how the featured tactics might be applied in Lebanon.

    On the 12th January, around 30 independent media advocates travelled from all over Sri Lanka to gather at a cooperative training centre, situated along the Mahaweli River, in the central hill region of Kandy. They arrived to attend a three day workshop entitled “Interactive Media Technologies”. The workshop sought to identify new ideas, approaches and tools that could be used to establish the first editorially independent community radio station in Sri Lanka.

    Development and advocacy activists in Bangladesh were amazed to see how powerful a small mobile phone can be when they watched the film '10 tactics for turning information into action' at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), Bangladesh.

    They learned how bloggers in different countries used this miniature version of information technology to expose corruption, intimidation and rights violations and create awareness against such practices among the people at local and global levels.

    On 3rd February, 35 young people braved the heavy snow and public transport cancellations in Denmark to come to Krogerup College, in Humlebæk, to watch ‘10 tactics for turning information Into action’. The screening was organised by Stefan Straten of WhisperIt, an organisation working to empower vulnerable groups and minorities through online technologies.

    On 9 December 2009, just five days after the London launch of ’10 tactics’, Tactical Tech's team in Bangalore held their own event for rights advocates working in India. The film was screened at the Centre for Education and Documentation and followed by a discussion focused on relating ‘10 tactics’ to the real issues and experiences of advocates in India.

    Action, information and freedom were the subjects up for discussion at the launch of '10 tactics' on 23 January in Porto, Portugal. The event took place at the Núcleo de Jornalismo Académico do Porto (NJAP), a non-profit which has been publishing Portugal’s oldest volunteer-led student newspaper, JUP, for 22 years. Sara Moreira, a computer engineer from Porto who organised the event for NJAP, says the '10 tactics' documentary allowed the audience to reflect on the power of information but also to learn about controversial and sensitive subjects often ignored in mainstream media.

    25 students attended a screening of '10 tactics' at the Center for Research on Philosophy and Social Sciences, Federal University, Rio de Janeiro. The screening was organised by Renzo Taddei, a Professor at the School of Communication. Unfortunately the 10 tactics copies, which were to be given away to guests at the event, were withheld by Brazilian customs. Tactical Tech are very pleased to hear that, despite this setback, Renzo found a way to distribute the film.

    Soon traditional Chinese will join the other eleven subtitle options already available for the 10 tactics documentary. New media masters student at the University of Amsterdam, Yufen Cadence Chen, is spending her winter vacation translating "10 tactics for turning information into action" because she believes that “it is a good film to share” and one she wants Chinese speakers to have access to. With a firm belief in environmental activism, borne out of her passion for organic urban farming and an academic focus on digital media, a film about info-activism resonates strongly for her.

    The Berlin premiere screening of “10 tactics for turning information into action” created quite a buzz among people engaged and interested in activism. Even before the event took place the announcement was widely re-tweeted and spread throughout facebook, while the event blog post was cited across a range of different online media. All of these online promotions resulted in an excellent turnout that well exceeded the organisers' expectations.

    The first Portugal screening of “10 tactics for turning information into action" took place on the evening of the December 21 at the cultural cooperative, Crew Hassan, in Lisbon. The event brought together about 25 people from different professional backgrounds, including representatives from several Portuguese and international NGOs, graphic and web designers, bloggers, students and artists.

    Thanks to the efforts of a team of five volunteer translators from the Rural Development Project (RDP), the 10 tactics film is now available with Urdu subtitles.  Human rights advocate and Executive Director of the the Rural Development Project, Mohammad Ahsan Khan, initiated and led the translation effort. “My commitment to the cause of human rights motivated me to translate 10 tactics into Urdu so that people from India and Pakistan could benefit from seeing it” Mr Khan said.

    From 7th to 12th November, 140 free and open source software (FOSS) advocates gathered in the Philippines for Asia Source 3. This was a six-day hands-on camp organised by UNDP’s International Open Source Network (UNDP-IOSN) in Silang, Cavite. The aim was to build Open Source IT skills through the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

    Long-time writer and activist, Melissa Gira Grant researched and wrote the content for the ten fold-out tactic cards which accompany the 10 tactics film. She first met Tactical Tech while she was consulting with the Open Society Institutes's Sexual Health and Rights Project in 2007. Two years later she attended the Info-Activism Camp in India.

    A team of volunteers has been busy translating 10 tactics for turning information into action into Arabic, Burmese, French, Georgian, Hindi, Indonesian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Thai. These languages will all be included as subtitle options on the 10 tactics DVD, to be released in early December.

    Togo has joined the list of countries to host a screening of 10 tactics for turning information into action in December. The Centre d'Information, de Formation, de Recherche et d'Assistance en Droit (CIFRAD) will be organising the screening in the capital of Lomè in collaboration with Association Togolaise des Utilisateurs de Logiciels Libres (ATULL) and Fédération des ONG du Togo (FONGTO).
